I'm not great at introductions, but here goes.^^
I'm not certain that I have Asperger's, but I think I might. I've researched the symptoms and I seem to have most of them. The only one I don't show is a special interest. I go through intense phases where I mostly study one thing, but those last only a month or two at most. I have a really hard time connecting with people and socializing, though, and I hope to learn some things here. So, it's nice to meet everyone and I hope to make some friends here. :)

Not having a narrow long-term interest describes me too. My special interest is books, which is a very wide area. I tend to get interested in a subject, study it thoroughly, and move on.

I do have ephemeral intense interests that have nothing to do with books. For instance, I was obsessed with spittoons when I was a kid. For a while I was obsessed with maps. More recently, it was with high-quality leather goods. I do the same thing with food. I'll eat one particular food often and in large quantities, then get tired of it, and move on to something else.

Do serial special interests count? I'd be curious to know if this is true of many aspies.

Welcome!

It amazes me how much I see in my own growing-up process as I see people describe themselves.

Have A Great Day!

I also have "serial special interests" so I think they count as an Aspie trait.

As a little kid, I was into bridges...in my early teens, it was parking structures...in my late teens, genetics...and on and on.

Hello, ardentauthor!

Also, to my knowledge, there's nothing that says one's aspie focus must be consistent through one's lifetime. I know that such is not the case for me, and I've got a confirmed diagnosis. I think the diagnostic importance of the focus is the level of intensity and the exclusion of other things while exploring the focus. Or at least, that is the impression I've had from the specialists I've seen.
