Hi all,
New to this forum. I'm Josh, 21, from Pennsylvania but moving to the NYC area soon.
I was diagnosed with AS at 13, and benefitted from a combination of therapy and learning to live on my own at 18.
I suppose I'd describe myself as in limbo between "mild Asperger's" and "neurotypical, yet eccentric."
I'll always have certain AS characteristics (narrow interests, difficulty interacting with new people until I become familiar with them, talking everyone's ears off). But people I meet generally have no idea that I have Asperger's, just that I'm a bit "eccentric." Half the time they don't believe me when I tell them!
I feel like I can blend in just fine in the neurotypical world, yet I'm also equally comfortable in the AS community. So it's an interesting road that I'm taking...I wouldn't change it for the world, though.
Anyway, I work as a copy editor for a major sports website. I've played piano/keyboard professionally, and I'm learning bass and drums. And when I'm not busy with all that, I enjoy reading all types of books, writing (mostly non-fiction), and wasting time online, of course.
I'm excited to start being a part of this community, and I look forward to meeting many new and interesting people.
