Hi everyone. I was told by a counselor that I may have AS, and then told by a psychiatrist that I "feel" like aspergers. Whatever that means. When I requested a diagnosis I was told no, because it didn't make a difference to my treatment (depression, anxiety, panic, agoraphobia). This was a year ago. Now I am unemployed and uninsured, so I'm no longer being treated for anything. Here's the deal: I'm over 40, so I've lived with this, whatever it is, for quite a while. Does it matter if I don't know for sure?

Hello Bartleby and welcome to the forum!

I have been diagnosed with Aspergers at age 30 and it HAS helped me. Now, I can't peer into you head and your life's experience and tell you if it will certainly help you, but keep in mind that knowing something for fact is a first step up the ladder of recovery. At least then you can look into what Aspergers is and what you can do to minimize it's negative effects. (And perhaps even enhance the positive effects)

Welcome to Wrong Planet! I only learned that I have AS a few years ago, but having that information has really been a benefit, because now I understand why I am the way I am and am able to make some progress in dealing with it a bit better.
