Hello Everyone,

I'm a 30-year old woman/girl from The Netherlands. My name is Elske, but that was already taken, so I chose Thura as my nickname, after a character in one of my favorite children's books (it's Dutch but translates to 'Children of Mother Earth).

I was diagnosed with Aspergers last December and am now looking around to see how I can use this diagnose to my advantage towards a 'better future' so to speak. I tend to work myself into a burn-out no matter where I work, so that is the main thing that I want to find a walk-around for. I'm hoping to find some tips and stories on this topic on this forum, to see how others handled this and how people who succeeded into finding a workable situation. I'm pretty convinced it is possible :D
I'm also active on a Dutch forum for women with a form of Autism, but there is no such thing as enough information for me, so Hi!

I'm happily living together with my boyfriend, and have been doing that for 5,5 years already, and our 2 cats (Pounce and Dash) and 2 Lovebirds. My bf is awesome, he's one of the biggest reasons I'm still on my feet, he gives me space, time and support.

Cheers!
Elske

Hello!

Welcome to Wrong Planet. I am happy for you, that you have a loving, caring man in your life who is willing to help you work through your issues. Does he also have AS?

I served in Germany in the US Air Force (1985-87), and would go to Amsterdam often, if for no other reason than to be somewhere where Americans are still held in as high regard as they are in the Netherlands. We were all too happy to help you folks out in WW2, and to keep the Russians from doing what they would have done to you, had they won the Cold War - well, at least some of us are, anyway!

I 'discovered' the Netherlands by helping out a woman who had broken down on the autobahn in Bavaria, on my way to Italy for a school. She invited me to visit her in Eindhoven, and after that,
I fell in love with the place. It was about 400 miles (or roughly 650 km) away, but when you can drive 100mph/160kph, it was only a 4-hour drive.

May you find the answers you seek here.

Rob
