Fáilte, VicSage. My mother first language was Irish Gaelic – she came from Donegal. She learnt the language orally from her community and was not taught it at school so she was unable to read it. Indeed she had trouble following it on RTE because it was from a school rather than a native, oral source. I was brought up in Glasgow and Gaelic was spoken among many members on my mother's side though it always surprised me that it was not known to members on my father's side who came from another part of Donegal.
