Hello,

I am new here and I came here to learn more about Aspergers. My son has been tentatively diagnosed with it but we're heading out for a more formal process to see exactly what's going on with him this week! I am eager to learn a lot here from those who have children with Aspergers and also from those who are adults diagnosed. I am finding that I meet some of the criteria myself! LOL...

Cannot wait to dive in and read up on the great topics here....

Thanks,
macaddict

Hello and welcome. It's great that you care enough to learn about asperger's from the people who actually have it. You'll notice right away that we don't agree with each other all the time.

Did you say that wasn't proper? Did you march out on the track?

Well thank you buddy for your advice...

Hi Guys!

LOL...thanks for the welcome...heck I don't think anyone agrees on much anymore these days! LOL....but seeing the differences each of you have really show the variety of symptoms. I think I will learn a lot here.

I do have a question about lights....I am funny about lighting. I absolutely cannot stand incandescent light over my head. Drives me insane! LOL.....

see I told you that I saw some things that relate to me in the symptoms.

Yes light is weird for me...I am almost like a vampire...love dark places and rainy days are my favorite days!! !! (Other than breezy fall days)...

ah! I cannot wait to read more to see if I have more similarities. now my son on the other hand who is 7 cannot tolerate loud noises! Even raising my voice when laughing drives him nuts.

Well, if you go to the WP homepage, you can click on 'what is Asperger's Syndrome?" and read a brief description of it (Well, a couple of paragraphs). My diagnoses took a while because my parents could not remember how I was when I was a child.

That sounds like me. If something just seems to get over a certain volume (except for music, and I still haven't figured this out) I just have to shut them or whatever it is up.

LOL about the music...now it's funny, I cannot tolerate music at a certain low level....and certain types. Real white noise doesn't bother me as long as it's repetitive. Hammering, copy machines, trains, all put me to sleep.

I really love LOUD (bassy) electronic music (like Phutureprimitive)that would be considered "chill out" genre types. Mostly nonverbal music is my favorite. I CANNOT stand "hair bands" and the electronic guitar stuff, but I can totally "chill" to of all things like Evanescence-type genre. Hair bands in the 80's (I was in high school then) absolutely made me come unglued!! !

Quick loud noises like gun shot or something dropped startle me and really unsettle me. Often times causing migraines.

So are you a fan of Macintosh computers, or are you a member of some bizarre, drug-using Scottish clan?

I don't much notice lights behind me or over my head, but a light that's in front of me, in my field of vision, drives me crazy.

I am an avid iMac user at work and home! We use them in my retail store for our point of sale system and I also use them for my Graphic Design stuff. Now, if I had a dollar for every kid (ages 8-18) that comes in my store and said "OOOOH KEWLLLL computer!! !", I'd be RICH!
