Hi.
*clears throat* I hate this bit. Because. Well. Pffft

Anyway. New here. I have yet to have my diagnosis confirmed with the Doctor, but am aspergers. (Have done assessment etc) Was kind of pleased that something explained why I seemed so completely socially inept at times! Upsetting people and insulting them without intending to. Plus giving people a truthful opinion that it turns out they didn't want. Because they wanted a platitude. And I don't understand the point of those. It also explains the hateful bullying I received at school and believe it or not also at University. And why people have often labelled me as weird, austere, geek, nerd, odd.....etc.

Turns out I am also dyspraxic, which also explains a truck load of stuff. (Like why I am always be-bruised and such)

I am originally from the south of England and have been imported to Scotland since August last year. Currently working as a Department Manager for a supermarket. (I know. Management + Aspie = sometimes I make my staff cry) have already earned the nickname of Ice Queen :salut:. However it doesn't bother me as the staff that work hard, know how I work and will always pull their weight for me because respect goes both ways. Those that don't need to worry about a patio in their future....

Just thought I would pop up on the forum having lurked and read things for a while. Plus to offer any kind of insights that may or may not help people. I've spent a lot of time with NT's in the jobs I have done and can provide a some what flimsy translation service. I will hasten to add, not all the time as they do confuse the heckitty out of me sometimes! Love Sci-fi and enjoy team sports. Specifically Netball and Archery. Obviously Archery is a singular sport not a team sport. Well you could be IN a team, but not play as a team. That would get messy, and a bit awkward if you accidently shot your team mate in the head. (NB: I don't get how I can play Netball either without damaging myself. Oh, wait, I can't. I broke fingers on both hands the last two seasons I played.)

So that's me. A sporty-geek-sci-fi-nerdy-weird ass.

*And exhales*

Welcome to WP Vampi. Hope you like it here!

(When I think of your name I think of the old pre-VRA UK video label "Vampix").

Their video ident (culled from the Video Nasties DVD):

Ooh, Scotland!

Yes, it's not best pleasant is it?

Perhaps it's not just because it's truthful but perhaps the way you're telling people your opinion might be unnecessarily harsh?

I'm sorry to hear that. :(

Do you like it up there? And in what part of Scotchland are you in? ;)

That a Brookside reference?

Regardless of that, hope you like it here. :)

Kelspook........*Ahem - Raises eyebrow* Who is stalking who Missus?? I post and suddenly there you are...... *hand on hip, small swagger - I got them moves like Jagger*

Tequila. I think its the fact people don't like the truth. I always pre-warn them and tell them that they may not like what I have to say. Most of my friends who are proper non-judgey Mcjudgerson friends know that if they ask for my opinion they get the truth. They also pre-warn others and say If you don't want the truth or anything direct, don't ask vampi.......

Vampi, welcome. My best friend is a Scot (though it looks like he's going to have to move to London for work). I'm guessing in Scotland you'll have a bit more breathing room. South England is nice, but CROWDED!

I too have dyspraxia, but am amazed what a few brushes with cacti did to improve my coordination.

I'm also a manager. When I first took over, I had "inherited" employees with whom I didn't always get along. Since then, I've been careful to hire people who can deal with me. If you have hiring authority, you can do the same.

There's a difference between saying that you think that someone doesn't look their best and giving them some constructive advice in order to help them and calling them them fat, horrible-looking slags with hideous teeth who never should be let out of the house like that. Do you see what I mean? ;)

I shall come clean and admit that Vampi is actually my significant and very lovely other :)

I can vouch that she would never say anything mean like that... Reckon all aspies have this problem-

Friend "Does this make my bum look big?"

Aspie "Yes, I wouldn'r buy it if I was you."

Or the very awkward and lengthy pause when the Aspie is trying to work out what to say gives it away. ;)

Yeah. Its a lot better up here. I am more accepted than in the south. I think people up here have a been acceptance of people. Well that has been my experience thus far. you don't run into the 'does your face fit' that I did in the south.

I've learnt to stop shutting my fingers in the car door.....

I had a team In swindon that I bought up from scratch and they were very very supportive of my Management style. Which is direct but they know exactly where they stood all the time with me. And we worked really well together. I am hoping to achieve the same with the team I have here. Its just a bit bigger! (27 instead of 10!!)

Both of those. Completely and utterly.

Or the look that dances across my face. The one of panic....... Where my brain is furiously flicking through every filter is has and coming back to me with the error

I'm glad to hear you like Scotland. BTW, my handle, Dunnyveg, is my family's old castle on Islay near Port Ellen.

I think you'll find WP an amenable place as well. This is probably the only place on this planet--or any other--that I really can understand the people. Again, welcome aboard!

See, this is why you are better with people than I am. I seldom get to the panicked filter flipping part, and default to honesty (though yes Tequila, it does sometimes include the Awkard Pause). Which has gotten me into trouble on many an occasion....

This is why I answer people for you. It saves the mess. Bleach can only get so much out y'know..... *winks*
