Hi, I'm a 28-year-old female diagnosed with Asperger's. Although I was diagnosed when I was fifteen, and have been following WrongPlanet for years, I just recently got around to actually signing up, and this is my first post.
Of two of the most well-known female Autists, Temple Grandin and Donna Williams, I've always been able to relate more to Donna than Temple, in many ways because Donna also experienced multiple forms of abuse growing up, (psychological, sexual, physical, domestic violence and neglect.) In my case, it was psychological, sexual, physical, ritualistic and neglect.
I'm passionate about Equality and Disability Rights, and proudly identify as Disabled even though I believe Autism and Asperger's are differences. I would like to see less hierarchy in the world, including in the Autism Community. Yes, everybody can exhibit some Autistic traits, but I don't believe there are different "degrees" of Asperger's, because it's impossible to know exactly what another person's circumstances are, not to mention the possibility of co-existing conditions such as ADD/ADHD, OCD, or any number of others. Context is everything.
