Hi All,

I found this web site about a year ago and finally now decided to register.
I am in desperate need of advice - from sympathetic, understanding Aspies - regarding my job and life in general, but first I'd better introduce myself to y'all.

I'm 54, female, and live alone...well, not exactly, I have six house cats, a bird and two dogs.
All my life I knew I was different from everyone else, but didn't know why until about a year ago when I stumbled across Asperger's on the Internet. Then it all became crystal clear.

I live in a rural area and there is no support group near me. I haven't been formally diagnosed, but I scored a 158/200 on the Cambridge (?)Aspie Quiz. At this point in my life, the only benefit I see in being diagnosed is if I should need to claim disability - which may be necessary some time in the future.

Anyway, I'm glad to be here, I think I'll fit right in, and I'm looking forward to meeting all of you.
Thank you for creating this place.

Welcome to Wrong Planet.
The only reason that I can find for getting a diagnoses as an adult would be to qualify for disability.

Thanks for the Welcome, Artrat.

Most people don't know what Asperger's is and don't care.
I read an article on an Autism/Aspie site about disclosing to your employer and how doing so could help the boss to make your work environment more comfortable for you.
Yeah, right!! ! Instant pink slip, if you ask me.

That's too bad. How so?

The way I see it, if I'm hired to do a job, the boss expects me to be able to do it. Asking the boss to make special concessions for me that he doesn't for others, or asking him to change procedure, doesn't seem like a good idea.
Most bosses/business owners have one main concern; that is, to make a profit in the most efficient way. If an employee can't fit in with the status quo, they'll get someone who can. And in this economy, employers have plenty to choose from.

I'm having trouble with my new job because of this.
