Hi everyone! I recently joined so I would like to introduce myself. My name is Shawn, I turn 24 next month, and I just recently came to the realization this month that I have Asperger's. That is actually a funny story in itself...I was attending an autism training for my one job and during that, they discussed Aspergers. When I started reading about the characteristics, almost all of them fit me when I was a kid and some still do today. It feels like my eyes were opened, as now I can understand some of my behaviors I had and my troubles with social interactions.
I'm not officially diagnosed yet...I'm not sure if I will get one due to the hassles it could create and I have created good coping strategies that work for me. I also wouldn't know how well my parents might react...coming out as gay was tough enough for them (my mom still doesn't completely accept it yet, and that was 3 years ago). Anyway, I'm looking forward to meeting and talking to some of you!
Shawn
