Hi, I'm Mike and getting old now. When I was young nobody seemed to understand me. Nobody ever did, although my parents tried their best. Some years ago I concluded that I had ADDS, but now think it has been Aspergers. The difference is I tend to have a strong imagination and am creative. I've spent many years trying to develop a high level of expertise as a portait painter. Like a lot of artists I find getting into the flow, or zone as some people call it, is when I am truly alive.

A lot of my life I've read through various self help books and programmes. The tough way through for me has been to be decisive and live with my decisions. That helps put pay to neurosis in my experience. The best thing has been to accept myself as I am and see the value in just being me. That can be difficult when nobody else seems to be accepting. For years I tried to fit in and be like everybody else, but doesn't that just get so boring.

I still tend to be a loner, but really love to chat with people who have the same interests as me.

Hi Mike! Welcome to Wrong Planet! Check out the different forums here. They are interesting and helpful. I too, am a loner, but have learned to chat with people as needed, and occasionally just to talk to strangers, like at the store. If you are interested in learning more about Autism/Asperger's, some of the forums here can point you in the right direction. Also, they can provide links to online tests you can take to evaluate yourself. The issues you describe and the way you put your thoughts down in writing makes me think that you are at the Asperger's end of the spectrum--high functioning.

Remember, you are among friends here at WP.
