Hi. I joined a little a couple weeks ago, but am just now getting the courage to start posting! I'm a 21 year old female living in southern oregon who is just discovering aspergers. I've been diagnosed with major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder and avoidant personality disorder. I had no idea what aspergers was. Around Christmas my younger sister(age 17) started randomly bringing up aspergers in a joking, but not way. (I am very close to her, her and our mom are my best friends). I didn't really know what it was, so I just shrugged it off and didn't really think about it too much. Then on a forum I post on for avoidants someone posted an Aspergers test thing that I took randomly and got a really high score. I told my mom and sister about it and we googled aspergers. The more I read the more it made sense. I since have read a lot on this forum and have read the book Aspergirls and I am currently about halfway through Attwoods complete guide to aspergers. I have talked about a lot of things with my mom regarding how I was when I was a child. I am actually shocked none of my teachers ever thought I might have it with how I was.

Reading the books and this place have described so many big things about myself. Even little things I never thought would be connected. It's so amazing seeing people talk about the things I have always dealt with but never understood. I always thought I was not a whole human. I've described myself as 3/4 human so many times because I felt like there was some unknowable quality that made everyone else seem to get a long and interact so well. Now that I'm starting to learn there may be a reason for how I have felt, it is liberating, but at the same time confusing. It's hard to explain...

I have made an appointment with a psychiatrist who supposedly has a lot of experience with aspergers and autism. Her first available appointment was late April, so I have time before then. I figure I'll just read and learn as much as I can about aspergers so I can go in there with some idea of what to expect (hopefully...)

Anyways, I have probably typed way too much, so sorry about the rambling. I just want to introduce myself! :)

haha, yes. I tend to use nayru as my name a lot, and people tend not to know it. It's nice seeing people actually get it, and also love zelda. :]

And I got my official diagnosis today, which didn't surprise me at all. So yeah. Thanks :]

Hi nayru. I am around that same age too and have been diagnosed with AS when I was 10. Tell me more about your past experiences.

I've always felt different than everybody, but I didn't know about aspergers until recently, so I always thought I was just missing some intangible quality that most people had and that I was broken or not quite human or something. I had never tried too hard to fit in with people I didn't know though. I never felt the need to be popular or anything. Mostly I just wished that I was more like the few friends I did have, so I kind of just tried to pretended I was. Which really didn't work out that well. I've always felt, and still feel, like I'm separate from other people, like there's a barrier between us... How about you? How do you feel about it?
