Hi :)
I'm 18 and live in Australia. I am currently attending Uni and living on campus. I have just been diagnosed with borderline Aspergers as I have allot the traits and symptoms of AS but I do not meet all the diagnostic criteria of AS. I am good at "faking it" and can sustain a sort of performance in social situations for a while although after awhile it becomes apparent that I am different from others. I have been living alone on campus since February and find I have been coping okay although my room is a bit messy. I knew no one when I moved in but I forced myself to smile and talk to people (Impossible for me this time last year) and by following a script of "Where are you from?", "What course are you taking?", "Are you staying on campus?" etc. I've managed to interact. I went to the social things organised through O week, knowing that it was my chance to make friends. I did make some friends although me naivety and inexperience in social situations soon started to show but they haven't left me yet :)

My special interests are preparing for the Zombie Apocalypse and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I also like Harry Potter, Bones, Mythbusters, Firefly, the Big Bang Theory and Doctor Who although not the latest Matt Smith Doctor. I also am good at making origami, especially earrings out of tiny cranes (hence the name).

My friends had always joked that I had a bit of AS but I didn't really know what it was until I read Tony Attwoods Guide to Asperger Syndrome when I saw it at the school library one day. I was surprised that I matched allot of the symptoms and after doing research realised that I probably had AS although now after assesment I know it is only borderline.

So anyway that's my (long) introduction. Hopefully I'll manage to get up the courage to comment on posts and to take part in discussions :)

Hi there!

I was also told my Asperger was very mild -- they said I am milder than 99.5% of cases. But my experience tells me the opposite I am one of the most severely affected people I ever met. Although I now have the answer. Namely, it was Bryna Siegel who said I was so mild; now her view of Asperger is outdated so she actually un-diagnoses people half the time; the fact that she didn't un-diagnose me like she un-diagnoses others is, in itself, an indication I am quite severe.

Anyway, so how about yourself? When they say "borderline Asperger" which of the following took place from official point of view?

1. Did they simply "not" diagnose you at all, and told you the word "Asperger" only informally

2. Did they diagnose you with Asperger and only mentioned the word "borderline" informally

3. Did they actually put the word "borderline" in the official diagnosis slot?

In my case it was number 2. How about yourself?

Anyway, hope you are enjoying school.
