Hi everyone. I believe I am an NT, though I've had some issues similar to aspie ones growing up... having a hard time reading social interactions, having obsessive interests, being somewhat of a loner. I grew up, learning how to interact as an NT, so I don't think I really have any neurological differences from typical folk.
I'm here because I'm in love with someone who I think is an aspie. Because of some unusual traits that he has, I googled autism, as he had told me he had refused to speak when he was very young. The description of Asperger's leapt out at me, as it seems that he has many of those traits. I told him about what I had found, and he said he'd research it as well. He said he is interested in "belonging" to something that would explain why he is different. This concept appeals to him.
So I'm here to learn more about Asperger's and how we might overcome some difficulties we have dealing with our different perceptions of things. Some of the things he does used to seem inexplicable, but would make sense within the aspie mode. I always try to get to the heart of what he is trying to convey instead of merely responding to him in the surface/social ways of NTs. I want to see his soul without getting distracted.
Thanks!
