Salutations to all my newfound Wrong Planet compatriots!

I'm Bill, male, almost 20 years old and I'm an undiagnosed Aspie from New Jersey, USA.

For my whole life, I've always known that I was different from most other people my age. I didn't have the same interests, I didn't speak the same way, I didn't dress the same, and for some reason, all the other kids (like between 1st and 6th grade) would always tell me I was weird.

Well, as I've gotten older and wiser, I became curious as to what this was that distinguished me from my peers. Through a lot of research, I was eventually able to tick off pretty much all the boxes on the list of Aspie characteristics. What is maybe a little bit unique about my case though is the fact that over the years, I've learned how to cope with/cover up many of my symptoms during my everyday interactions with other people. Through trial and error, I figured out that flapping my hands when I'm excited looks very strange to others, talking incessantly about one topic bores people to tears, and laughing and smiling every once in a while WILL NOT result in instant death. Even though this process wasn't very easy or quick, I still managed to make a few friends over the years with whom I've remained very close (no girlfriends yet, but I'm working on it).

In terms of my interests, they're EVERYWHERE. Firstly, I love all things mechanical. Cars, planes, spaceflight, trains, ships, bikes, whatever. If it has a motor, I'll be interested. In addition to that, I am studying political science and Spanish in college. Politics and the law are just endlessly fascinating for me, and foreign languages are something I have a bit of a talent for, so I chose Spanish because I figured it could be very useful in the future. I'm a big fan of classical music as well, especially Mozart and Haydn. I play the piano too, but I've not had formal lessons in many years, so I arrange everything I know exclusively by ear. Also, I love history, particularly European history.

Other than that, I work as an English tutor in my school's writing center and I like doing that very much.

So, that's me in a nutshell. Again, hello all, and I'm very pleased to be able to share some of my experiences with you.

Hi Bill! Welcome to Wrong Planet! Check out the different forums and articles here. They are interesting and helpful. You are among friends here at WP!

As far as reading goes, I also have many interests. My favorite book categories are mystery and SF--but not fantasy SF, and sometimes adventure and techno thrillers--like Tom Clancy's stuff. I also like animal stories, humor, history, historical fiction, some classic literature, real crime stories, some biographies, occasionally general fiction, and non fiction. As you can see, I have wide interests. How ever I am not into horror stories. I did go through a horror story phase in my late childhood/early teens, but I eventually lost interest in the spooky and horror stuff. I guess there's enough of the real thing on the news.
