Hi Half2focus! Welcome to Wrong Planet! Check out the different forums and articles here. They are interesting and helpful. You are among friends here at WP.
I am here both to learn and to socialize. I am in my early 50s and found out just a few years ago that I have Asperger's. It was a great relief to finally know why I was so different from others. Not knowing was hard to deal with.
I have no interest in the regular social sites, but this is a good site. It provides info about my condition, and social contact that fits in my comfort zone. Besides Autism/Asperger's forums, there are also forums here on many other topics, including games, computers and electronics. politics, age related forums, etc., so it isn't just about the main issue that brings us here. I like all this variety under one roof. I hope you enjoy the site. I do!
i also learned, age 45, that i have asperger, and i was also soooooo relieved to find out why i was different, because i knew i was different ever since i was maybe five or six, and it was such a mystery to me and i couldnt understand. i was so confused... thought i was a freak, thought i was dumb, but now i know better.
i also dont like regular social sites with normal people. i dont even like normal people, i dont hate them, but dont feel a bond with them, and cant understand them.
aspies can be mistaken for bi polar easily. bi polar people retreat from social activities when depressed. and the aspie look is a detached look that people mistake for a sad look. also, bi polar people get hyper when up, then down. we aspies tend to be hyper. god knows i was crazy hyper in my twenties and thrities (now i dont have the strength anymore.)
when you stare into space, people might think you're depressed, or suffering from trauma, or whatever, but it's just our way.
finding out is usually a relief, and joining this forum can help you learn so much about yourself and understand and accept yourself. it helped me a lot and i feel much better about myself now.
