Hello aspies,

My name is Mikhal K, aka XJ220RACER. A few years ago, I posted here under a different name, but now I want to come back with my new email and new name.

I'm 18 years old and live in Illinois, USA. That is me and my cat in my avatar. Currently, I'm stuck in high school, which I hate, but only 2 months to go. This fall I am looking to go to art school, which I'm scared to do, but I guess everyone is/was scared to move out of home. My "aspie interest" is cars and more specifically British supercars like the Jaguar XJ220 and McLaren F1. I collect model cars and photograph them, which is my hobby. Currently I work as at a caterer at a concert venue, which is pretty good, but I'm planning at college to get a photojournalism degree and hopefully get hired by a car magazine and be a writer, photographer, or bit of both.

I was diagnosed with Asperger's 5 years ago. I like to think of myself as high-functioning for someone with our condition as I have pretty decent social skills, and very easy to get along with. But it wasn't always that way, around the time I was diagnosed, my life was awful. Currently, school and the constant sensory overload I get there wears me out a lot, so I usually fill out my days relaxing at home with my cat and music playing.

Some other random things about me - I speak French, am a diehard Minnesota Twins fan, love riding my moped, love playing card games, love cheese, and my favorite music is Brit-rock such as Kula Shaker, Muse, Oasis, and others on my Last.fm page.

I would like to learn from you all about certain things. Moving out of home, getting a girlfriend, stuff like that - I'm way behind most 18 year olds when it comes to things like that. So I look forward to meeting you all :)

if you live on campus, it's a nice cushioning transition between living with parents and on your own.

to get a girlfriend, meet lots of girls (hi, i'm mikhal, what's your name, what's your major, do you have pets, what kind of music do you like, etc. - perhaps try the book "the fine art of small talk" by debra fine - small talk will be instrumental in work situations, too.), and ask the ones you have things in common with for coffee (or a soda). if that goes well, try dinner. maybe then a movie, during which you can hold her hand, and so on.

Hello there XJ220RACER. Welcome to WP. :)

What sort of cheese do you like? A relative works at a British craft cheese factory. :)

Welcome!

Your cat is just adorable!! !! I love the creamy red colour.

Also: there's no need to feel behind when it comes to love, moving out and such. I wasn't exactly ahead when I was your age. : P

Thank you all very much :)

Tequila, I like almost every cheese. But if I'm eating plain cheese, I prefer it to be a soft and mild yellow cheese - Gouda is my favorite.

Hi. I'm 22 and I've never even thought about getting a date. (a boyfriend in my case.) :)

Don't feel too pressured to move out of the house. Even a lot of NT young adults live at home these days. The fact that you have at least some direction as to what you want to do after high school will be a huge help.

Can I ask where you are from?

Thank you Ashley. I live in Illinois now but grew up in Lake City, Minnesota, which is pretty much a very nice resort town built around the huge Lake Pepin. I see you live in my home state, I read somewhere that Minnesota has one of the highest AS rates in the nation.

I wondered if you had any connection with Minnesota, because you are a Twins fan.
