Hello, everybody.
English is not my native language, so I would like to apologize for any future clumsiness in advance.
I am a long time reader of this site and forum, first time writer. I am almost 30, single (or never had a girlfriend, depending on the exact definition of term "girlfriend"). I have many interests, some of them intense, in particular I happened to be very fond of technology, and this is the field I chose for my career. I believe myself to be quite successful with it, right now I am at the middle of my postgraduate study.
I was never diagnosed with aspergers, so I do not know if I have it, the only thing I am sure of is that most tests usually give me very low neurotypical rating. I Would never use term "self-diagnosed", since I am not qualified to diagnose any conditions, and I do not want to be diagnosed too. It wouldn't change anything in my life, since obviously aspergers syndrome is not axiomatic and is only a product of the current social paradigm. And if anything official diagnose could only get me into trouble, like for example losing my driver's licence (perspective I believe to be quite real in my country). This is why it says "not sure" in my profile.
Most problems I deal with are consistent with AS however, so this is why I used to often read this forum, which proved to be helpful more than once.
Once again, Hi!

What country are you from? I never heard of this being the case.

The country in which after all the years word "psychiatry" still has a scent of a political instrument. The country where every fact that could possibly compromise you, may and often will be used against you in order to extort money. It's not that bad actually, but I would prefer not to take any risks.

Hi Curly. Welcome to WP. :)

Is it a former Eastern Bloc country? Just asking.

It is Russia.
As I said - it wasn't that bad actually. Bullying at school for example was nowhere as pressing issue as it is in US, judging by the movies and general media buzz at least (which can be misleading). Even gopniks are much more decent people than some of the characters from your typical American dorky teen comedy. But again those could have been exaggerations, I am not sure. Local bureaucracy alone though is a reason enough not to burden yourself with any diagnoses.

That's a rather sad state of affairs. It's a shame that things are this way in Russia - but I understand why you would not want to do so in such a climate.
