I have never had friends. I don't trust anyone.

The short answer: Yes, there is a place. Talk to us. Describe how you feel. What are your thoughts? Perhaps someone on this forum can direct you there.

Welcome to Wrong Planet Tatum! check out the many interesting and helpful forums here. You are among friends here at WP! :D

You need to find ways to occupy yourself.

- Exercise. It generates mood boosting endorphins.

- Read funny stories and watch funny shows. Humor also generates endorphins.

- Eat healthy, and enough of it. A healthier diet will boost your immune system and is also good for your mind. Skimping on amount of food leads to depression, crankiness, and being more prone to get sick.

- Get enough rest. Being tired leads to depression, crankiness, and being more prone to get sick, too.

- Listen to and/or play music. This is mood boosting.

- Take courses, either in person, or online. Some of the online ones are free. The in person ones are a good way to meet people.

- Volunteer. There are people worse off than we are, who would really appreciate the help. It's also a good way to meet people, and boost your self image and mood.

- Take up a hobby or join a club. These are good ways to meet people who share your interests.

- Get involved in community activities. Attend town meetings, events at local libraries and other local organizations. Attend local sporting events, fairs, and art shows. Attend and/or participate in local theater groups. These are all great ways to meet people and boost your self image and mood.

- Employment/or self employment. Great way to meet people, boost self image, put money in your wallet, gain experience. Since you have been having trouble finding work as an employee, perhaps you should consider self employment. There are many types to choose from.

>> Lawn mowing/yard work/gardening.
>> House cleaning.
>> Errand/shopping service.
>> Wait for service people, so the home owner/renter doesn't have to take time off from work.
>> House/pet sitting.
>> House chores for the elderly/disabled.
>> Handyman.
>> Tutor.
>> Computer maintenance/repair.
>> Website design.
>> Other website based businesses.
>> Paint houses indoor/outdoor.

There are many other self employment opportunities. Your local libraries will have books with lists and descriptions of them, so look into it.

Now, go and do something, and good luck! :D

I like a lot of the things questor lists, but it can't just become another list of 'shoulds.' :D

There really is a chaotic aspect of what works and what doesn't. Some volunteer organizations, it's as much a job interview as anything else and they seem to be looking for 'normal' people. And I wish that wasn't the case, but sometimes it sure seems to be the case, I guess running about 50-50.

Or, we'll be more optimistic and call it a zen aspect and feel-and-texture and go with the flow in a good way. But, really is kind of a chaotic aspect.

And as maybe as something you can do in the here and now, maybe try and help one person a day here on WP. Sure, you'll miss some days and need dome breaks, so be it. All along you'll be developing skills and helping other people develop skills.

I have struggled with bouts of depression. I might have decided to try prozac at age 26 for OCD, which I've also struggled with, if the young psychiatrist I was seeing had not been so nasty and self-righteous about the whole thing. He was almost the stereotypically bad authoritarian doctor, when it is of course my life.

Future bouts, I am open to taking antidepressants. Now, as I've read, the biochem tends to be tricky and different for different individuals, so the first antidepressant may not work. And it typically takes a month to tell, and other sources say eight weeks. What I take from this is to get a doctor I can halfway talk with and keep trying different medications until I get one which clicks.

And sometimes it's also important to step down from an antidepressant in phases even if it doesn't seem to be working.

And a 'regular' doctor like an internist or family practitioner can prescribe an antidepressant just as well as a psychiatrist.

I approach trust like feral cats.

I trust those who have proven they can be trusted. Nothing can ever be proven 100%; but I trust those who have demonstrated a pattern of trustable behavior.

When I get depressed I do something physical. Just taking a walk in the park or the woods helps a lot and I've found Yoga works wonders.
