Hi, my name is Jeff. I am doing a research paper on autism. I would love to speak with a parent of a child with aspergers or autism. Nothing in depth, just a few minutes of your time. Actually email interview may work just as well. I am interested in ways of treating the more common "sypmtoms" of autism. Actually i guess i could speak to a grown up with aspergers and get this same information. Anyway, i know this may be wierd but i thought i would give it a try. I cant correspond with a minor without first speaking with a parent but if anyone wouldnt mind talking with me please email me at go4broke1980 (thats a yahoo address, they wont let me post a full link) or just respond to this post...thanks

I can speak to a friend and see if he is willing to come on the forums and speak to you, I would like to point out that from my own knowledge and knowledge of other's around me who are Aspies too, that it's a genetic thing, my father is aspie as is my mother and brother. I've seen this to be proven through many of my friend's families too, whether it's accepted or not in the field, it certainly appears to be this way from my experience, I'll get back to you soon (possibly a good couple of days if I get to see him) and let you know if he's willing to speak to you!

:)

thanks Lioncash. Is your friend a parent with with an autistic child? If you dont mind aswering a few questions:
Your perspective may be different than many ive spoken with because you have a family history so your parents were more informed than others may be without any experience with autism or aspergers.
At what age were you diagnosed?
What "symptoms" (is that the correct word, symptoms?) did you exhibit before being diagnosed?
Any particularly difficult symptoms your parents faced? (self injury type issues)
and you use the term "aspie" that is referring to Aspergers correct? I know that is a high functioning autistic (although i realize there is a debate if they are in the same diagnosis or 2 different things all together) but what are some similarities between an aspie and a typical autism child? any perspective from your own life and any details about the disorder in general would be greatly appreciated. thanks, Jeff

You might want to try the parenting forum too, there are plenty of adult posters with autistic children over there.
