Hi. I was diagnosed with AS a couple of years ago. I work as a special ed teacher assistant. I teach morning shift. I also babysit in the afternoons. I do ok with kids. Especially since some of them are non-verbal. Being around adults for that many hours would be near impossible..or possible but with a lot of meltdowns.

Someone once told me I'm a good listener. I think it's because if a conversation is too intense for me, I get people to talk about themselves. That way I don't have to share my life. When I do it's either on the internet or I talk about myself to one person but the next time I want to talk about myself it's with someone else. Casual conversations are different.

I don't know about you but I sometimes see questions like "Where are you going?" as too personal and the person who asks them as nosy. I know that the NTs who ask them are doing it to be polite. I sometimes ask things like that too just to keep from talking about myself. But sometimes I see people who ask them as being nosy.

I am much happier alone when I'm not working. I have problems with being told what to do if it's something that I don't agree with or see as pointless.

I have no understanding of why people want eye contact. I don't see people's faces. When walking I look down. When talking to someone I either look at their hands or just past their face. Looking at their face is too intense. I'd miss what they say if I had to focus on doing that. So I don't.

I've liked reading some of your posts. Haven't read them all.

Welcome to Werbert's Planet, Uhura.

Our leader is Emperor Werbert I. Tinky is random. ShadesOfMe and I are vampires. Pillows are the answer. Pillows are always the answer. Please don't touch the kittens. They contain no penicillin. Bob the Llama is a drunk chipmunk who thinks he's a llama. His new title is Bob teh 1337 Yiffy Banana Llama Priest. You can also call him Bob teh Almighty Dude. There's a radio in werbert's fingernail... CAR!! ! Teh Young Ones is teh 1337. I think that's everything you need to know.

I like your name. It reminds me of Ahura Mazda.

Yay, Uhura is on bridge! LOL. (Sorry...my geekyness revealed... Star Trek, in case you all didn't get it.)

Yes, "Where are you going?" can be far too personal, especially when asked by seemingly random individuals. My personal "problem" question is "What are you doing?" Too much interrogation.

I relate to being the listener as opposed to the one gabbing on and on, though I tend to be loud-mouthed on the Internet. The occasional empathetic nod or noise, no matter how fake it is at times, can make some people feel a lot better.

Anyway, welcome to WP :)

Another welcome topic overrun by our Churches. We really need to move this sort of thing elsewhere.

I like you're name, Uhura! Where did it come from?

This is music to my over-sensitive ears. Soft music.

Thanks everyone. My names from Star Trek (I can't remember who asked). I'd stay and 'talk' but have to leave. 'Talk' to you all later.
