Hi

Newby reporting in!

I first found out about AS while a student and related strongly to it, however my college psychologist did an assessment and told me I couldn't have it as I have too strong a sense of humour.

Now in my mid 30s one of my children has recently been diagnosed so i've re-researching the issue I now believe I certainly do have an ASD, especially with the genetic link.

I enjoy geocaching, sports and dogs, and live near Portsmouth in the uk.

Tony

Hi and welcome to WP.

I think people with AS can certainly have a sense of humour! I hope you will find lots of support and information here for you and your child.

Hello Tonydev, welcome to WrongPlanet!

Even though I am technically a High Functioning Autistic person, I have a huge sense of humour and really enjoy almost everything from intellectual humour to silly humour (although slapstick, sex jokes and loo jokes get on my nerves a wee bit if they're totally tasteless/pointless). To think that you do not have ASD simply because you have ASD is, to put it harshly, a little bit silly.

It was 20 years ago, so I guess there wasn't quite the amount of data available back them and maybe the issue was seen more in terms of black and white. My AS score (is score the right word?) is 88 and NT 112, so any diagnosis is borderline any way. But it's great to have discovered this community, where people share and understand my aspie traits, and to have received such a warm welcome. Thank you!
