Hello everyone. My name is Melissa, I'm 27 years old, and I think I have Asperger's Syndrome. I've been seriously thinking that I have it for about 6 or 7 months now. I have an appointment with my psychiatrist in about a week, and I'm hoping to get a diagnosis then.

I've asked for a book called Aspergirls for my birthday, but can anyone recommend any other books about girls/women with AS?

Also, can anyone tell me what happened when they were diagnosed - did your doctor put you on medication, for example?

Thanks!

Gee, thanks.

How did you discover that you had Asperger's Syndrome? Is there a reason that you're not yet diagnosed?

Every time someone joins on here and has an intro thread a bunch of people say welcome to WP. I thought it would be funny to say welcome to facebook, I should have waited until after someone said welcome to WP.

I discovered it through google

Okay, I kind of thought that's what you were doing, but since this really is my first time on one of these I didn't know that everyone said "Welcome to Wrong Planet." That's one thing that sucks about talking online ... you can't exactly hear sarcasm in someone's voice.

Oh, I can't resist.....

Welcome to WP! :D
Also, if you want to demonstrate clearly that sarcasm is implied online, using half a bbcode works "[/sarcasm]"

Works for me, anyway. Anyway, I hope your appointment goes well.

Welcome to Wrong Planet, Melissa.

I think Aspergirls is a great book, probably the best one to get first. I've also got Rudy Simone's book '22 Things a Woman with Aspergers wants her partner to know' which is useful whether you are in a relationship now or not, as a lot of it is true of friendships as well. I'm currently reading 'From Anxiety to Meltdown' by Deborah Lipsky which isn't specifically aimed at women with Aspergers, but Aspergers people generally and the author is a woman who has Aspergers herself. I would also recommend anything by Temple Grandin.

I don't have a diagnosis yet so I can't help you with that, sorry.

Welcome, Nixie. Hopefully you didn't take a wrong turn while looking for the Happiest Place On Earth. As you will soon discover, this is the Most Depressing Place On Earth. This is where the sad-eyed aspies sit in cages waiting to be adopted by joyous families.

On this site unless it is blatently obvious it is kind of expected that people will not get it, it is pretty come on for people to say that they used sarcasm at the end. I don't get sarcasm most of the time in real life. It is not like I hear sarcasm in people's voices anyway
