Hi there

I've been lurking for a while, reading up, just signed up tonight. I'm in Auckland, New Zealand, married with one son and a labrador.

Our three year old son was recently diagnosed with 'moderate autism' with a high likelihood of ADHD (which apparently he will not diagnose until he's older...?), so we're on a big learning curve right now. We're currently doing speech language therapy which is going very well, and we're on waiting lists for early intervention classes. As yet we don't know any other parents in the same position, so it's nice to have this forum :)

Welcome to WP.
Im glad you guys caught him so early. I was 14 before they caught mine. It will help and after a while if you are lucky hopefully he will be living a somewhat normal healthy life. *praying for you guys*.

While you wait for everyone else. Gambling is on your left, pretty girls on your right. food thru the hallway. Politicians can be reached thru that hot hole in the ground that drops 10 miles right behind you *dont back up*

Hiya :) We are lucky that a lot of people in our life deal with this stuff, so knew the signs. How do you get caught at age 14? I thought it was something you could only see when they are little? Excuse my ignorance, I'm still learning!

Well mine is Asperger's Syndrome, a High Function form of Autism. I didn't develop the social skills, speech wasnt a problem it was getting along with the other kids. It wasn't until i got into a major fight at school in Junior High, that it was decided i needed to be tested. I work on my social skills constantly with my roommates/family, and try to break myself of my obsessions with help and for the most part can pass it off to the point that unless i tell people.. they dont know.

add all that stuff to the fact that i spoke.... way more.... elegant than the other kids. It was a red flag after the fight. at 8 my classmates are saying "not needed" im saying unneccassary and superfluous. it makes you stop and go... Something is up

that's interesting. I thought aspergers was a form of autism, and that all autistic kids had language development delays. So thanks for the info, I have a lot to learn :)

It is a form of Autism.
and for most people that delay it is a sign of it. that was really the only sign i never showed.
I have the same obsession problems, Video games, Politics. and girls. (maybe that last one is more a guy thing than an Autism thing lol)
Social issues, I have a hard time telling when people are getting bored with what im saying. I have a nasty tendency to interrupt people, because I cant tell when they are pausing, and when they are done.
I have a "comfort item" like a few people i know with AS have.
I have a set way of doing things during the morning that if i dont do i get what i call the "what the f___s"
My vison is bad but is VERY sensitive to sudden changes in light. I also have very sensitive hearing ... like right now. there is a cricket across the street that I can hear and is driving my crazy, with traffic going by i can still hear that cricket chirp.

Few people have ALL the signs of Autism and AS. Most of us have a majority of them.
