Hello, all!
I am SO HAPPY to meet you on this site!
This is the first really good aspie/autism site I've ever seen. I'm so happy to have found it.
You see, I was on the internet back in the late 1990's and early 2000s, but, alas, all the supposedly AS/AC sites back then were all dominated by parents and they all were so filled with the "tragedy of autism/aspergers" lament, and everything on the sites was oriented only to the parents who had to deal with this "tragedy" and wanted to CURE it (us), and there was never anything on those sites for/by us acutal aspie/autistic persons, so I became pretty turned off and just stopped reading or visiting any of the sites for several years. Its so wonderful to find a site that is for and by US and filled with a lot of useful information too!
Ok, I'm an adult (over 40) female, diagnosed with aspergers about ten years ago by a child psychiatrist whom I was seeing even tho I was an adult. I live in the northeast, altho I have recently completed a truck driving school course and soon my address will be "whereever", USA.
I play the bagpipes. I am an off and on member of Mensa (mostly "off" since that is a social club!) I draw horses. I bet on horses, and generally win, but have never had the $$$ bankroll to do that professionally. I love animals; the love of my life is a Siamese cat. Like many of you, I have lost jobs, I have been tortured, harrassed, because of being AS. I have spent many years 'pretending to be human", and studying how to be a better pretender, with pretty limited success. Like you, I DO NOT UNDERSTAND. ! !! !! !! !! !! ! NTs are beyond my limited ability to comprehend, and it is SO DIFFICULT being an AS person stuck in an NT world!
Its so great to come across an AS world, here!
