G'day all
Names Bill, I'm a 52yr old male from Australia with undiagnosed AS,,,,,,,I think.

I have some problems with life in general and stumbled across an Aspergers site after a guy at work described me as 'very black and white'.
There I found all of my issues were neatly listed and the penny dropped, so to speak.
I'm exited to think I may have found out the why to all my problems, but deeply saddened also as I'm two thirds through my life and it seems I've struggled for so long not knowing why.

Anyway, saw my doc and have an appointment with another doc on the 14th September.
Feeling a bit nervous about the 14th, what can I expect?

Most docs follow the standard protocol, and after the initial interview will require an expense lab dissection, and have your head shipped to South Korea for in-debth personality testing. But trust me it's a total waste of time, so ask for the Ordeal by Chat instead, which is a little painful but at least short.

I didn't get it figured out till very late also, and still remember looking at the list of aspie traits and thinking 'Well Damn... now there goes just being unique'. Actually I don't know what to expect as far as the doctor's go. I have been for anxiety/depression type stuff, but not Aspergers. Welcome to WP and good luck with your appointments.

Thanks for the reply guys.
Just got out of hospital after some weird migraine that affected my vision.
Thought I was having a stroke. 8O
Pretty stressed at the moment, roll on the 14th September.
I hate the if, but, maybe of it all.

Welcome to Wrong Planet. :)

(I know, my welcome was a bit belated. Better late than never, right?)

Oops Sorry CockneyRebel, I made the mistake of calling you Mick because you put the word Mick at the end of your text.
Or are you Mick??? I find things like this really confusing. I think I'm overthinking this

I'm pretty sure CockneyRebel is more than happy for you to call her Mick :)

Welcome to WP.

What sort of doctor are you seeing, are they an ASD specialist? If so, you can expect something like an IQ test (such as the WAIS), maybe a survey or two (such as the Autism Quotient Test), and an interview. It should take a few hours. If you are seeing a regular psychiatrist, it will more likely involve a one hour session which won't be as in depth and you may not be so happy with the results.

Sorry to hear about your migraine - the first time I had one my mum thought I was having a stroke. I just suddenly couldn't see what I was reading properly. Scary stuff until you know what it is!

yt

Thanks YT
Hate to insult someone I don't even know.
Seeing a psyc that has experience with Asperger's and I have a 1.5 hour appointment, I really need an yes or no answer as I'm stressed out to the max. I noted down some I have in common with AS traits.
I'm at six A4 pages so far  . I'm nervous because I've learnt to mask it for 52 years and now I'm not sure anyone can see it.

Talk to me CockneyRebel, I didn't mean to hurt your feelings. :|

Hi Bill. I spent 41 years of my life not really knowing why I was different. Through circumstances I wound up talking to a Clinical Psychologist. I was given an AQ & EQ test and as a result was diagnosed as having Aspergers.
From that day forward my life slowly began getting better. People finally began to understand why I am like I am. My wife would always say it was like living with a kid & now she understands why.
Don't worry, if you have AS, a good Psychologist will pick it up. If you have it, and once diagnosed, it will start to answer a few questions. Good luck
