Hi Im new to this forum, Ive been looking at forums for advice but not sure if my son has aspergers yet so felt like a bit of a fake joining before. My sons 6 years old, since nursery has had trouble interacting with other children, likes using same routes home or gets huge tantrums! dont like going anywhere new, says his hair hurts when having it cut! has been beat up twice badly at his old school due to older children bullying him and he couldnt understand how to handle it ( weve changed schools). The dentist visits are a nightmare, toothpaste is too strong for him so brushing teeth is a nightmare, he wont wear clothes that are different, dont feel right or smell right. hes punched and bit himself so i restrain him, we have tantrums, loud noises upset him and he holds his ears and cries. If theres a supply teacher in when he's at school he cant handle it, they get tantrums, hitting and non compliance.
Thats just a few things, the school set up a meeting with a lady who deals with aspergers, autism etc and she thinks he has mild aspergers so hes been forwarded to the hospital waiting list.
Ive asked for help and advice as to how to help understand him so i can make life better for him and just get told wait for a diagnosis, but we need advice now aspergers or not. Were just stuck really and just trying our best, we have bought ear deffenders for loud noises, try to keep to his routine, tried lots of fruity toothpastes, all sorts but not sure if were doing the right thing.
He's above average with learning at school apparently so thats really good. he enjoys making models and reads loads, usually educational books.
Today he broke a back tooth and we had to visit the dentist, i explained before hand to the dentist he is being tested for aspergers and dont like new surroundings and some noises, but she didnt understand and was trying to rush him, resulting in him biting her finger! i felt awful and she was so snotty about it all.
I love him to bits, when hes calm hes such a loving and sweet little boy. No one seems to understand him, they think hes spoilt, someone i work with said i just dont like children when i explained what hes being tested for and hes such hard work at times.
