I'll get it started. I have three that describe me:

Foreigner - I Want to Know What Love Is
Oomph! - Zuviel Liebe kann dich toten [Too Much Love Can Kill You]
Oomph! - 6 Fuss tiefer [6 Feet Deeper]

And the two that inspire me:
Oomph! - Lass mich raus [Let Me Out]
Rammstein - Morgenstern [Morning Star]

Quote:
I've been living for years in question, some obsession
Was I less to live with no answers, as a life cried wolf
I'm ashamed to mention my anguish, but silence lies empty
If I say it again can I kill it, will you lend me your ears

Breathe in breathe out exhale, acting sweating
A broken smile provides them a view, projection is nothing new
Just once I would like them to feel it, suffer in my skin
For a moment stand in my shoes, filled with swelling blues

I keep this room, and this room keeps me, chained to my organs
I am quarantined, to a place that's dark, staring at three walls
The door is locked to them

Maybe now that they all know it, you'll find solace
As you're drowning in narcissism, or is it self-loathing
You fought it all in your head boy, psychosomatic
They used to humor you now they pity you, and nothing's changed

[repeat chorus]
The door is locked behind me, if I say it again can I kill it
'Cause they're sick of my complaining and i am sick of being sick

Maybe these will cure you completely, chemicals deeply
Saviors until you're dependent, don't let them go to your head
I'm ashamed to mention my anguish, but silence lies empty, silence lies

Quote:
Let me give you some insight into my insides
I haven't been this confused in such a long time
you can't believe I've spent years just losing my mind
I can't believe that 10 years have really gone by
it's been a long time
Had a plan for every year I've been alive
a million more I've built up inside of me
there's a million more that I have bottled up
Had a plan for every year I've been alive
a million more I've built up inside of me
there's a million more that I had built up
and that I've f****d up

Quote:
This is me
I've got a nasty sense of humour and a case of high anxiety
If you please
I would rather be alone, than have the world around you judge me
So I've got my life together, but it's half of what it should be
So you think you can make it better?
You'd better help me, help me

Hang on but prepare
I can't live up to you
Hold on, Hold on
There's still a part of me that can't escape my insecurities
Hang on, this is me

Can't you see
I've got a perfect explanation but keep it deep inside of me
Pardon me
But if you really want to know
Well then you'd better learn to trust me
So you've got your life together, but you say you gotta have more
So you think I could make it better?
Just be careful what you wish for

I'll have to think on if I have any songs that I feel like describe me, but I can name a hundred songs that somehow 'speak' to me in a very powerful way:

A couple I'm almost sure no one here knows: 'Florida' by Mofro (now JJ Grey and Mofro) is truly amazing, and while I like everything Orange Avenue plays, I'm partial to 'This Time Baby' for some reason.

Let's see...

I love a LOT of Bob Dylan songs - I think 'Forever Young' is probably my favorite. No, it's probably not the song you're thinking of. 'Positively 4th Street' is another that from time to time I have identified VERY strongly with - so much so that I suggest you go listen to it, or read the lyrics if that's your thing. I won't bother to list the rest, there are too many.

I also love most anything Johnny Cash did - 'Man in Black' is probably my favorite, and I LOVE 'Sunday Morning Coming Down' so much more the way he does it. In that vein, he did a group thing for 'The Highwayman' that I just adore.

I also really love the Moody Blues (because my Papa taught me to) - and a few random songs from other artists he introduced me to like 'Sympathy for the Devil' and 'Ruby Tuesday' and 'American Pie' and 'Operator' and lord, that list would probably go on forever. I also really like 'Drops of Jupiter' which I put here because it fits in no other bit of this post =P

Past that, I like *everything* my favorite local musician plays. He does a lot of Irish (and American) folk and trad songs - some of it is REALLY bawdy and awesome. It would be nearly impossible to pick favorites, but 'Green Fields of France' is definitely on the list, as are 'Fiddler's Green' and 'Caledonia' - those are all pretty slow, though. For upbeat stuff, I love Irish rebel songs like 'Black and Tans' and songs like 'Moonshiner' and 'Whiskey in the Jar' - and I'm kinda partial to a bunch that are very, very dirty and I will not name here. Oh, 'Dublin Blues' is definitely one of his best, and safe for all audiences. I went back and bolded Caledonia because I *think* that second verse ('I have moved, I've kept on moving, proved the points that needed proving, lost the friends I needed losing, found others on the way...') might be the most powerful verse (for me) I've ever heard in song.

Heh, that was more than I meant to write - but I can't express how important music (actually, that musician of mine) was to my recovery last time I broke into a million pieces. I'm sort of taking this post as a very lucky and timely reminder that I need to keep the stereo on when I can't turn down the volume on the bad tapes in my head. Thanks muchly - I didn't know I needed it <3

Many would probably relate to This is how it Goes, by Billy Talent.

(So I hold my breath till my heart explodes, 'cause this is how it is, and this is how it Goes.)

Initially about MS. (Not NTs :P)

I've found music to be a perennial source of self-soothing, consolation and inspiration for me. I could list a gazillion songs, but one I've been particularly fond of during the last two years is a song by a not-very-well-known singer/songwriter named Kevin Ray that I first heard used in the soundtrack of an indie movie, "Zerophilia". The song is "I Don't Believe You Have It In You". He's got it streaming and downloadable on his website, but I'm apparently too new here to post a link.

If I'm in a crappy mood, feeling defeated and stuck (not uncommon), this song provokes me to get up and keep going with my never-ending project of trying to construct a life that doesn't suck too badly.

(not formally diagnosed yet but going to see a therapist soon to get her opinion about me and Asperger's-- I have traits galore, which were much more evident when I was younger)
