Hello WrongPlanet!
My name is Erik. I live in Queensland, Australia.
I don't know what else to say except 'hello'.
My interests include cop shows, cop cars, flashing lights (police and otherwise), sirens, PA systems and mobility scooters. I also like the GTA III era games (GTA 3, Vice City, San Andreas) and play Doom multiplayer on occasion. I also like The Powder Toy and open source first person shooter games. I write fan fiction, and am yet to publish my first fanfic. I also like comedy movies like Fat Pizza, the LA Riot Spectacular and Drop Dead Fred. If I see a movie with a famous actor in it on DVD, i am most likely to buy it from a brick and mortar store rather than online because I do not have a linked Pay pal account with my bank.
I buy whatever I can find that interests me in brick and mortar stores.
My goals include:
purchasing a duty belt that a police officer wears every day complete with handcuffs, pepper spray, etc.
Buying two new hand held CB radios with speaker microphones
Building a home made set of Trio T-2 'soup tin' lights as seen on Adam-12
Buying a 'Wolo Deputy' siren with adjustable volume for all siren tones to mount on my three wheel mobility scooter (I have a bad leg and have limited mobility)
Being able to get a job in the IT field as a data entry operator as long as I don't end up being a systems administrator.
I will mainly be on the WrongPlanet IRC channel most of the time.
Thanks for reading this.
Erik

I used to have occasion to drive a fully or partially marked police vehicle on occasion on work related business. It was a real pain.
One problem was that people on freeways would slow down and refuse to pass. So they'd be driving in the next lane down the freeway when I'd need to change lanes so that I could exit the freeway. It was often difficult to move over because they just wouldn't budge. I missed my exit on several occasions.
More fun was to have a police radar in my car. One day I was driving along in my car as I headed out of town for the weekend with full beard, wild hair, and bicycle on the bike rack on the roof when I noticed that there was a long line of cars behind me and they had been there for a while. Right behind me was some old couple in a motor home and the wife was just staring at me through my back window trying to figure out what was going on. So I looked in the passenger seat and sure enough, the radar gun was turned on. Once I turned it off, everyone started passing me except for that motor home. They stayed behind me for about thirty more miles until they turned off and headed toward a different town.
That particular radar gun had been previously taken apart by our electrical engineer. When he put it together, I don't think the power settings were at all correct. I did some experimenting with it once with my father and we found out that his radar detector could easily detect it from 7 or 8 miles away.
We had a lot of fun with that radar. For what it's worth, at that time our company had an FCC license for the various radar bands in use that covered all 50 of the United States.
Hi Erik!
I like that you spell your name with a K. It's awesome.
I'm from Australia too.
I enjoy crime shows too. Especially like CSI, Law and Order, Criminal Minds and some British crime dramas. In general I find the reasons why people commit crime interesting over the police procedure. I really liked Perry Mason when I was little.
Police dogs are wonderful. I think that it's great how they are trained and work with officers to reach a particular goal.
