So. First post. Like fun, but different.

When I was a kid, before 1994, there were heavy suspicions that I had highfunctioning autism; once Aspergers made it into the DSM, I got regrouped. I assume that was official; I didn't get a medal or anything; I just got 'I'd call it Aspergers' from my neurologist.

I'm personally tempted to disagree with the diagnosis. Not for any good reason; I just don't want it to be true, I suppose. Even ameliorating the 'disorder' to a 'syndrome' makes it sound oddly abnormal. Though, to be objective about it, I've got a good percentage of the classic symptoms: eye contact issues, proclivities against hugs and handshakes, literal and pedantic interpretations, overthought precision in wording--moreso when I'm not quite where I belong, including this place to date.

This is probably funny to people who aren't me. My coffeechick recently talked me into taking some online autism test in which she, having never been diagnosed with any such syndrome, had scored highly a few days earlier. She read the questions to me from across the room, occasionally waiting for my answers before deciding on her own whether a given statement described me. Ultimately, I ended up correcting more questions than I answered; the wording throughout was insane. Still, I was ruled ninety-two percent aspergian. Complied against my earlier percentage, I'm down to ninety-six. A few more netbased tests, and I'll be cured >:)

So, that's approximately how my brain doesn't work.

Another diagnosis--and there's no denying this one--is chronic migraine. So, any aspergian complications notwithstanding, I'm already off the grid with the headaches. I mostly write novels, which take anywhere from two weeks to eighteen months, depending on various factors. Of course, I'm used to writing in restaurants with the clinking glass and bad, soft music; I'm also used to smoking while writing; and I'm in Denver, where the three together were banned this summer. So that's decidedly ungood.

Oh yeah. Precision aside, I'm into neologisms. There are half a million words in English, and some concepts lack terms, to date. If I make zero sense: ask.

I suppose that's enough to go on for now. I can always get deeper into details as they become relevant in other threads.

Oh, and: Hi There.

Um...no.

I was called Gremlin somewhat before 1984. Any resemblance to mogwai is misunderstood.
