I wanted to introduce myself. I am Sarah and I am married to Justin and we have four beautiful children. Our middle two children have been diagnosed with PDD-NOS and I found out after the first diagnosis that my husband's doctor suspected he was on the spectrum as a child but his ignorant parents chose to ignore testing. I believe that he is somewhere on the Autism Spectrum because he has a lot of the traits of it and it really would explain some things.

The reason I wanted to join this site is that it is hard to find information on how us NT's can really understand the ASD family members we have. I don't believe that crap about it being a curable disease and so rather than try and "fix" the people I love I want to learn how to talk to them and help them cope in this NT world. I am also hoping I can come here with some questions and get an answer from someone with Autism/Aspergers rather than asking an "expert". If that makes any sense.

Welcome. There is an awesome thread about the open hotline NT--AS. Thats a good place to start.

One of the best ways to learn about us is to see what we ask. That really tells you what we miss more than what we tell you we miss (after all we don't know cause we miss it lol).

Welcome to WP,
I think your approach is good. Some Autistic instinctive behaviors are different from Neurotypical ones and understanding those can really help reduce the friction in your family. Then you can focus more on working together on their skills interfacing with the NT world, which is less forgiving.
