Hello fellow inhabitants who live on the wrong planet. I have come to this forum to correspond with like-minded freaks...err people. I've always been somewhat socially awkward and, as a result, I've endured a great deal of emotional strife in my life.

While having a preference for a larger sphere of personal space than others, I've also felt compelled to genuinely connect with other people. The latter need has been satisfied by a close relationship with my wife but, nevertheless, I'm often bothered by the superficiality of connections beyond my immediate family. Aside from my need for personal space, what separates myself from others is my aloof and peculiar demeanor. Family members have suggested that my differences may be Aspergers although I'm not sure I fall neatly within those lines and I'm skeptical of hasty self-diagnoses.

This intro is turning out to be much longer than anticipated so I'm going to wrap this up for now. I hope to learn more about myself and members here, and maybe I'll figure out whether we really hail from the same alien planet.

I have not been on it long and joined for similar reasons.

So far I have found it as diverse and bewildering as the "Right Planet". But I have found it very useful.

Thank you folks for the warm welcomes! I hope I didn't offend anyone with my use of the word "freaks" in the OP. My intent was to use it with humour, loosely referring to people, like myself, who have atypical behaviour and thought-processes. Frankly, nothing bores me more than "typical" and few things are more annoying to me than being called "normal". The older I get, the more comfortable I become with my differences. Stigmas are ripe for repudiation, labels are ripe for rebranding. For these reasons, I'll often refer to myself or people I admire as "freaks".
