I finally found a community of people like me who can communicate with me. hello all.

When I found this autistic community people my Doctor told me that autistics can be rightfully diagnosed as ret*d because they suffer cognitive delays. However what I discovered in this community is that autistics are actually misunderstood geniuses.

Yes we do have mental processing problems, and so do those with Down's Syndrome. However, there are some big differences, including chromosomes involved, so they are not the same. Autism includes a large number of things that are not part of Down's Syndrome. Also, a large part of those on the Autism spectrum are not intelligence type of mentally impaired. There are some people on the Autism spectrum who also have Down's Syndrome, but the same occurs in the rest of the population, so don't see this as the same thing, just because of one ignorant doctor or therapist.

When I was in a psych hospital years ago they tested me for autism. I didn't score like a person who was heavily autistic would, nevertheless, they thought I still belonged with that particular group so they placed me in a remedial type unit with others who were severely autistic or had Down's Syndrome. They were fishing, but the unit was not where I was developmentally. After I made a remark of a suicidal nature, they returned me to my original unit after two days. I guess they're still working out those kinks especially now that the term Asperger's will be null & void next year.
