Hi, I'm Shyanne, I'm 18, from England, and I'm currently in the process of being diagnosed with Aspergers.

I'm just wondering, I keep seeing these EQ, SQ etc. numbers in people's signatures and I'm wondering is that?

I also wonder about that, then I realized that many times, those who are undiagnosed have that as their signatures to prove that they have something like AS. Then again, I think some who are diagnosed have it as their signatures as well since it gives a look at how severe or different their diagnosis would be. All I know is that EQ is often used as a measure (I guess) of diagnosing something like Asperger's, classic Autism, etc.... which is why I'm surprised at how high my EQ is despite my diagnosis of an ASD. :o

Welcome to WP.

The EQ and SQ tests are screening tools for identifying people who might be on the autism spectrum. They do not diagnose people, as (among other reasons) they contain no questions about how impaired you might be as a results of your autistic-like personality.

The EQ test attempts to measure empathy, in the sense of understanding social relationships and how people tend to feel (this is actually "cognitive empathy" - there are other types of empathy that this test does not measure). People on the autism spectrum tend to score much lower than non-autistic people.

The SQ test attempts to measure "systematisation" - loosely speaking, the tendency to place things in a structured, logical system. Aspies tend to score high on this test.

Both tests are related to another well-known screening test: the AQ (autism spectrum quotient) test. This test produces a score between 0 and 50. Most Aspies score 32 or more, while the average non-Aspie scores around 16 (and typically in the range 10-22). You will often see people on WP quoting their AQ scores as well their EQ/SQ scores.

My AQ score is 33, and my EQ score is around 10-15, and I think my SQ score is up around 90 - it has been a while since I did that test.
