Oshkosh, NE or Oshkosh, WI?

I'm in Appleton, WI, just a short drive up US 41 from the Wisconsin version.

I heard that Oshkosh was a boring city to go to school in.....but I asure you that no town can be as boring as Menomonie, WI where I went to school (UW-Stout). I now work in madison.

The whole campus town image of Oshkosh extends out only in a half-mile radius of campus where all the bars and housing is located.

The city of oshkosh itself is very conservative and most people *HATE* the university even being there and consider it to be an eyesore.

Being an R-TV-F major I see this up close and personal as there is a PAC-like group in oshkosh who's sole purpose of existance is to lobby the local cable TV commission periodically to remove the university rep off the commission and kick the campus television station off the local cable network.

Which is actually quite sad considering the fact that it restricts local programming. Does the college TV station provide open access to the community of Oshkosh as a Public access TV station, or is programming restricted only to what Students at the colllege produce?

Well, I attended college in Ripon in the 1990s, and now live in Colorado. I went to a few events at UW Oshkosh (a symposium they had there & I got to see Tommy Thompson do a speech there).

UW-Oshkosh is a public university and under state law, they cannot restrict access to the facilities to wisconsin taxpayers. People from the public have used the TV studios and facitlies in the past to produce programs. However there are rental fees to be paid, the same goes for people who produce at OCAT (Oshkosh Community Access TV), so they tend to produce their programs out of studio.

Anyways, the people of oshkosh hate our programing becasue it dosen't agree with there conservative viewpoints, we're all ready censored somewhat in what we can air. When the channel first stared, it was on channel 2, then it got bumped up to 12, then 20, and now we're on 66 which is ahead of only the TV guide channel, OLN, and Disney. All thanks to the efforts of this PAC group.

And that's the truly sad thing that the beef this PAC has with us is purely political.

Actually that's not sad, it's pathetic. If the station is a community station, then it would seem that the people who are opposed to the station would be ready to produce and air programming that reflects their values.
