Newly Enlightened Aspie! New to This Site!
Hi, I'm new to this site. I am a 21 year old, self-diagnosed Aspie, who is also a wife and mother to two beautiful toddlers. My entire life suddenly makes sense now that I understand who I am. My sister was diagnosed with Aspergers in our childhood, and both of my parents, though undiagnosed, have some pretty blatant traits and characteristics themselves. I also believe that my husband has a few traits, which explains why we are so drawn to each other, but that's another subject.......
Once I started realizing just how different I was, doing some research and connecting the dots, I came across the discussions on this site quite frequently as results of various Google searches related to Aspergers Syndrome. It feels so go to know that I am not alone in this world and that there are so many others who have experienced the same pain, trauma and negative experiences in life associated to having Aspergers. I have actually read a wide variety of discussions here, some dating a few years back, and have been able to relate to just about all of them & have been so in awe at the fact there really are people just like me, so I finally decided to join and actually become apart of the discussions myself!
With my new found understanding of who I am, I have redirected my academic focus to learning as much as I can about the Autism spectrum, and obtaining either a sociology or psychology bachelors degree and then a Masters in something pertaining to autism and special ed. I have become really passionate about helping others, particularily young people, who may be experiencing the same pains in life because of their ASD, and I would really like to make a career out of it and become an advocate for Aspergers/Autism and victims of bullying as well.
Sorry about my longwindedness, one obvious symptom (LOL), but I am really looking foward to joining the discussions here, seeing as I have never related to anybody more in my entire life than this community (other than my husband), and am really optimistic about making some friends and acquaintances here, something I don't mange to do too well in the real world!
