I've come across this forum several times while searching Google on various topics.
I decided to finally join tonight, I'ts just so hard to find anyone who understands what its like to think this way.

Anyways: Hi, I'm Garrett. I'm 28 and 4 years ago I got diagnosed Bipolar 1, and suspected Asperger's. Now that I've been seeing the same psych for 3 years the diagnosis was recently confirmed.
I cant say I'm really surprised... I can take apart and fix anything but I just cant figure people out. I was married for 7 years to the love of my life. Unfortunately she left 2 months ago. We are trying to stay friends but the separation anxiety is ripping me apart. I explained to her yesterday that although I love and miss her, I need the "idea" of her in my life. She was always very supportive and proactive in ensuring that I got help. I know that she loves me still, but she just cant live the quiet and secluded life style that I prefer.

on that note: sorry in advance for many emotional/confusing post to come.

That's awful! I want a quiet and secluded life too, in a rural area, and I'm afraid I'll have dating and relationship problems because of it.

Nice to meet you- and I'm sorry about your girlfriend. I've always thought it was comforting to see that there are others who think the way I do. I'm glad someone else agrees.
Anyway, welcome to WP.

Yes, me too. I always make it clear when I date that I'm more interested in the quieter lifestyle, so they know what they are getting themselves into. Most people don't share these goals, so it does make it harder to find the right person.

Anyway, welcome, Garrett.

I'm going to chime in and agree with y'all about the quiet lifestyle, because that's what I also prefer.
Welcome to Wrong Planet, Garrett. :)

I get that - I was married to the love of my life for 10 years and she left shortly after we actually started spending more time together (first 9 years was school and work - I was focused and had tasks to complete) - I realize now she left because of my issues. I did the same thing - trying to stay friends, but it just made things worse for me - separation anxiety can lead to terrible depression. I hope you are doing okay, it is not an easy thing you are going through.

BTW: I like your use of "idea", it helps me to think about my own situation in a different way - a good way. I hope you are able to find a new "idea" that brings you happiness :) Welcome.
