hi everyone,
i'm new here and recently diagnosed as well. i'm 34 and frustrated because it took so long to figure out what was going on (been in "treatment" since i was a kid.)
sorry if this post is a bit of a downer, that is the way i'm feeling currently. i am lonely and really need to know there are others like me out there. no one in my family gets me at all, i don't have a lot of friends. i go to school but feel invisible there. i rarely talk to anyone and if i do really try i feel like i say/share too much. also i feel like a big kid inside and not interested in things people my age talk about. this is so hard to write. i do well in grad school, my professors write really nice things on my papers but when i try to write about myself words don't come--does that make sense to anyone?

Welcome to Wrong Planet, or as I call it, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Lots of folks are like you here including those like me with no friends at all. C'est la vie.

Welcome. If you have a hard time putting yourself on a page, this place will be great practice for you. I don't like talking about myself; I don't like filling out greeting cards; I never know what to say. But here I can be heard and understood; it's a good feeling. I'm addicted to semicolons.

I am Another one of the people with no friends. My life is that way and I just deal with it sometimes easily, sometimes terribly. thought I was the only one for a long time. I welcome you too.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. Not having friends to call when I need someone is hard. When NTs reach out to me I feel like they get frustrated with me very quickly. There are these questions that always start "why can't you just..." I have met a couple of AS guy friends but these friendships are hard to maintain because we both get or feelings hurt so easily. I have never met another female with AS or at last not one like me who can't/doesn't "pass"and that part is really hard.

Yeah, it has always been problematic for me as well, this never feeling comfortable in the mainstream. I instinctively always am trying to get out of the press of humanity.

But in fact you are quite normal for this group. It is not like socializing is instantly easier, but at least we all have simliar attributes and understand each others better. We also don't consider each others unusual interests and obsessions weird. The feeling of never really completely departing childhood is very common.

So welcome to WP & hope you can find some kindred spirits.

I hate those questions, too.

I am also a female with AS in my 30s, so I can relate to the things that you say.

Welcome to WP.
I began thinking about having AS this January, got an expert evaluation (psychologist) this April and am going to an psychiatrist for a diagnosis January 2013. Women on the spectrum are often not found out and we have to figure it out ourselves.

I like semicolons too; I don't know how to use them but I use them anyway.

It is great to know that I am not alone, that there are others who lack friends but have found an outlet here. On the other hand, if anyone wants a new friend (one who has a great heart but needs practice) I'm happy to hear from you!
