Hey. My name is Julian, and I'm 23. It's been a while since I've dropped by here. I was last on when I was about 16, I think. That came at a time when I really had very little sense of self, and acknowledging Asperger's more fully gave me a fragment of a whole that I am still searching for. I was diagnosed at a pretty early age. Considering that this was the early 90's, though, I had all sorts of diagnoses before, such as Fragile X Syndrome, a simple blanket "Autistic," PDD-NOS, then Aspergers. Funny how the cycle is going to be going backwards with the DSM-V changes.

I'd rattle off all of my diagnoses, but there's a certain point where you have so many that it starts to feel like a strange string of jargon. I was also diagnosed last year with Borderline Personality Disorder, which I had always suspected that I had. So, as far as identity, I see myself as a synthesis of many different forces, a dialectic, so to speak. It reinforces a sense of difference, but also a spirit of individualism. In the end, I'm glad for it.

I also think that I have ADHD, but I'm not going to play into the whole self diagnosis thing too much. Though, my brother does have it, too, so I'm waiting for an appointment with a psychiatrist or psychologist, at the very least to get a clearer picture.

I guess I'm posting here to meet people, pass time, exchange ideas and concepts and the like. I do a lot of photography, especially in New York, where I reside. Varying styles, from Abstract Art, to Occupy Wall Street. The common links are mostly surrealism and Black&White. I like to write, too, especially poetry, but photography is my mainstay. It's a more accessible outlet. While writing is almost always a very very intense experience. Here's my online photo portfolio, if you'd like to see.

Right now, I'm unemployed and helping my family around the house. But, despite this, it's been a much better year than the last. I've made some amazing friends and I'm a lot less reclusive than I used to be. Though, it's still the pattern that I fall back into when I get overwhelmed by things. Like today...

As far as my interests go, let me just rattle some off:
Radicalism (Especially Anarchism and Anti-Authoritarian tendencies of Communism),
Philosophy
Reading (Going through Empire and The Human Factor right now. Favorites: The Power and the Glory, If This is a Man, Tropic of Cancer, Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World, House of Leaves, Watchmen, Another Country; just to name a few off of the top of my head.)
Photography
Writing
Films: (A lot I can list.... Withnail and I, Naked, and the 400 Blows made a big impression on me. Werner Herzog is one of my favorite directors. Was really really shaken by a film called Punishment Park.)
Music: (Punk, Post Punk, and a bunch of other stuff. Whatever is surreal, wild, and a little deranged.)
History

Anyway, it's good to meet you all.
