Does anybody else feel like they have to live in earplugs??? I always thought I was just crazy until I started to learn about Aspergers. I'm ready to kill my next door neighbours and their 4-year-old. Although now I know it's my problem and not theirs. And what's the etiquette on letting your neighbours know that you can hear them having sex???

Hello and welcome!

I don't have advice for you on that last question 8O, but I am very sensitive to sounds too.

I used to feel that I had to sleep with earplugs.

Many warm welcomes, by the way. :D

Welcome to WP! I buy lots of earplugs, and even will start carrying them while shopping in loud, busy stores. For those days when it seems as if someone turned up the world's volume.

I was in an exam not long ago and this chick was chewing gum with her mouth open right behind me. Wanna talk about annoying sounds?! !!

It's nice to know I'm not alone. I thought I was the only one who had this problem. No one else ever seemed to mind. Thank God I found this website.

Thank you!! I thought chewing with your mouth open only bothered me because I was old fashioned! Thank you all for making me feel like less of a freak!

Yeah, it's nice to be in a place where I don't feel isolated. Usually no one understands me.

Hi, and welcome! :D

I carry earplugs at all times and I've gotten over being shy about using them. I'm saving up for those silent headphones things.

Re hearing neighbours - quoting them back to themselves might be good. Or maybe you could join in from your side of the wall, as cheerleader or commentator (do you remember Howard Cosell?)

I once told my upstairs neighbour that I was surprised to see her son was so grown, because yesterday when she said to him 'get back in your crib' ... you had to see her face! And hear the silence. :)
