I'm a new member on the forum as of today. Just need a good friend really, someone understanding. I email someone else in America who's a lot older than me but gets a bit annoying comes out with all this religious 'mumbo jumbo' quite a bit and I'm an Atheist, that's about all I email at the moment. I'm 23 in the Uk, diagnosed over three years ago, not fully convinced though. I'll be a good friend to anyone so if you feel like your in the same boat and feel rejected by mainstream society then please contact me, I don't really know how to put it, but does anyone ever get 'false friend's?' I read about it in this information about this male with As, he died in 1997 but he wrote this book 'A survival guide..' I ge treally angry when someone turns round and says 'I'm your friend' but oh! I don't want to spend any time with you, I don't want to go for a drink with you.... Hmm.... I'm not really sure what else to say but it's happened a few times and I don't know what to do, it does makes me angry but I don't act on that feeling because of the consequences. My interests are mainly Robert De Niro, vampires, walking, don't havethatmany interests at the moment but I would like to get back into drama again.

I say this to most everyone, but so far no e-mail penpals...

I live in central Lancashire - Longridge to be exact.

I don't feel rejected by mainstream society (I don't feel as though I'm a disease) but life is a constant struggle for me. I'm also an atheist so you won't get me preaching on the virtues of Catholicism! I have a few friends down my local but none other than there. I'm going on a course for partially sighted people in a few weeks so I can gain greater independence and social skills.

The man you're talking about is Marc Segar, by the way. I've read his book. It's useful, but omits some pretty important stuff that people with Asperger's Syndrome need to know.

And I'm off down the pub. If you want to talk some more you can always private message me. :)

Cheers.

hi, i am an atheist too. it was a tough decision, i 'tried out' 6 different religions by the age of 9. i was drawn in by the majestic buildings, 'friendly' people, reading and rituals. but somehow it wasn't to be. i've been atheist since and seem likely to stay that way.

i am sorry to hear that these 'false friends' are making you angry. i think (and correct me if i am wrong) that as we AS types are less expressive (or at least easy to understand) that fewer people in our instant gratification society are willing or able to take the time to get to know us. this hurts, but is also their loss.

when did you study drama? i wish i could learn some drama as i love physical theate and belong to a community aeriel theatre co. but i am also really timid.

i am probably too old (at 30) and a little out of your area (i'm in london) to be a proper friend. but i'd be well up for a chat. feel free to message me if you feel like it. L x
