Hi everybody. Well, I'm sure I have something, just not sure. During trying to figure out my son those involved (wife mainly) started accusing me of being AS. Maybe, maybe not. I'm all for finding out.

I'll probably ask a lot of dumb questions and be a little slow on the understanding of the lingo for a while so I ask for your patience.

What I'm good at is music and writing. What I'm bad at is figuring out why people "don't get it." I guess where I really find a disconnect between myself and the "typical" Aspie is that I'm a very social person and perform all the time in front of thousands. I am, however, figuring out that maybe it's the way I've coped: to "hide in a crowd" or be on stage where nobody can get to me? Anyone else identify?

Jewish cowboy? What is that? Everybody's at the rodeo on Saturday except them? While their friends sit in bars drinking beer they're swigging Manischewitz?

"One day I got on the bus, and when I stepped in, I saw the most gorgeous blond Chinese girl. I sat beside her.

I said, 'Hi', And she said, 'Hi', and then I said, 'Nice day, isn't it?'.

And she said, 'I saw my analyst today and he says I have a problem.'

So I asked, 'What's the problem?' She replied, 'I can't tell you. I don't even know you.'

I said, 'Well, sometimes it's good to tell your problems to a perfect stranger on a bus.'

So she said, 'Well, my analyst said I'm a nymphomaniac and I only like Jewish cowboys... By the way, my name is Denise.'

I said, 'Hello, Denise. My name is Bucky Goldstein.'." - Steven Wright

A blond Chinese girl and a Jewish cowboy walk into a bar.
The bartender says, "What is this? A joke?"

Thank you everybody for the welcome.

Yeah, there are 3 characters in movies I identify with strongly over the years constantaly: Yossarian (Catch-22), R.P. McMurphy (One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest) and Cool Hand Luke.

This is what scares me: After spending my life (I'm 46) trying to get along being different in a world and time that I've always felt out of sync with... what can I expect if I get an "official" diagnosis? I'm really afraid it's just going to be another thing where people tell me I'm broken and I have to let them "fix" me or just another reason for my wife and family to discount my feelings more because I'm "not normal." How did y'all experience it and handle it?

Honestly, I've gotten this far in life on talent and charm, to the extent there are many people who tell me they "wish they could be like me" (which I don't understand really because it hasn't been easy). But talent and charm wear thin. I have to put on that "brave face" I learned and had instilled in me by the Marine Corps, but I'm scared. Ya know?
