Hello,
My name is ***, but you can call me BlackSkimmer.
I am new to this Asperger disorder even though I have know about it for a long time. I am confused about what all the terms mean and would like help. Also, I don't know how to work the site yet and would like help with that as well. Ya, I am hopeless, but I am working hard at getting better.

Welcome to Wrong Planet!

If you can be a little more specific about what you need, we'd all by happy to help out. =D

Are there specific terms you would like explained? Feel free to ask either here or in the threads where you see them mentioned. Folks don't mind going a little off track to make sure everyone understands the lingo being used.

Is there anything in particular confusing you about the site? I think most people just kind of wander around at first, until the site begins to feel familiar. That process doesn't work for everyone, though. The members here are generally very thoughtful and supportive. You shouldn't be shy about asking for help any time something confuses you, or if you're having trouble finding what you're looking for. =D

Sorry, I was a little vague. There are terms like Aspies which I am confused about. I just found the site so terms like this confuse me. Sorry if I am vague again, but it is due to a lack of knowledge.

No problem.

Aspies is slang. It's a term of endearment. It refers to people with Asperger's.

NT is another common one. That is shorthand for neurotypical, though it is sometimes used to mean just "not on the autism spectrum"

AS also means Asperger's.

HFA means High Functioning Autism, as in the diagnosis. People just spell out "high functioning" when referring to it as a concept instead of diagnosis.

Those are all the common ones I can think of off the top of my head. Just ask if you see something you don't understand...the members here LOVE to explain things! =D

Hi BlackSkimmer! Welcome to Wrong Planet! Check out the many interesting and helpful forums here. The General Autism forum can help you with a lot of your questions, and I think there is a forum for site info, too.

You are among friends here at WP, so don't be a stranger. Wish I could visit here more often, but like another recent poster, I suffer badly from Executive Function Disorder, as a co-morbid condition with my Asperger's. I also have several other health issues that use up time and energy, so I can't spend as much time here on WP's site as I'd like. But do visit here as often as you can for help, info, companionship, and fun. :D
