New here & What helped me cope with reality
While growing up I always knew i was different, Knew i wasn't "normal" and was just labeled "shy" cause everyone thought i was a genius or something.. cause i could focus myself on things of interest and learn so much, and never been comfortable realizing i was AS. even after being diagnosed it was something of shame, (not anymore)
i got into computers at an early age and realized i too was like a computer, just maybe like a 16mhz one running software (our reality) meant to run smoothly at 33mhz. at least thats how i looked at it... anyone else felt that way too?
I slowly realized books where like floppy disks for our minds, and i could adapt to hide most of my autistic tendency's, like a programmer would optimize games to run smoother, also learned alot by watching movies, studying body language etc. and some movies just burned into my mind...worth noting:
#1 "They Live"
how those sunglasses revealed a hidden subliminal world.
#2 "Being John Malcovich"
how they controlled him like a puppet from his mind.
#3 Matrix, and Total recall,
how reality is a dreamworld or virtual reality basically.
#4 Gattaca (1997)
how the character was labeled being genetically disadvantaged, but still achieved his dreams to go into space.
So yeah, I found watching movies & doing computer programming made me realize we can "program" our minds too, at least on a "software" level to kind of adapt to fit in and be normal... of course i still am "distant" in life & obsessive about my interests... and find it hard to get genuine friends & generally get overwhelmed getting to know new people, anyway just thought i would post my experience being AS. and say Hi.
btw I'm from Toronto Canada! & this looks like a cool board.
Best metaphor ever.
how the character was labeled being genetically disadvantaged, but still achieved his dreams to go into space.
lol, he did that by cheating the system.
