Hi all,

I really feel out of my depth. Help! About a year ago I found out that my son is on the autistic spectrum. His school/local education dept. think he has HFA/Aspergers but they are reluctant to take a firm view as yet, since he is only 4yrs old.

For the past three years, I have worked as a support worker in a forensic learning disability service and I too think he is on the spectrum.

I had a bit of an epiphany lately. After observing my son over a long period, I realised that we are just the same. I'm sure I have Aspergers.

About a month ago a colleague complained that I was insensitive towards a patient. I was suspended and I expect to lose my job this week. I put what happened down to my autistic traits but there's other issues as well. This LD nursing is very political.

Can anyone help me make sense of things? I feel like my world's been turned on it's head in such a short time. I have to say, though, that I'm not pessimistic about things. My son is an amazing, beautiful boy. Must take after his dad, :)

Did your employer at least explain how you were "insensitive"??? You have a right to know and to be re-trained before you're disciplined.

To be fair to them, I didn't tell them until after a disciplinary meeting. But now they know, so I'll just walt for the outcome.
