Hi everyone! I thought I would join this forum for all the helpful hints and tips for everyday life...
a little about me...I thought I would like to share my story to show that no matter how bad life can be, it can also get much better!
I was diagnosed with autism when I was young. I had a tough time in school, never had any friends, had no social skills, etc. I was an embarassment to my family unfortunate to say; by the time I was a teenager I was angry, depressed, and suicidal. However at age 15 I got my first dog who was a stray, and my life changed after that. For once I was loved, needed, and understood. Since then I got a job, bought a car (Jeep--I love it!), another dog...then moved up to Northern CA...more dogs...attended a university (when no one thought I could even finish high school) and will graduate soon, got married, and bought a home! Much to the surprise to everyone. I live in a small community in the mountains (15 people, they are my family now), have 5 dogs (hunting hounds, my passion), and am happily married with a part-time job and will soon have a Bachelor's degree, and I will soon have my own business, hopefully (I do photorealistic wildlife paintings and drawings as well as taxidermy).
And yes, I still have that first dog that changed my life.
So in short, don't let life get you down if you have a disability. I still struggle when it comes to other people, but I've come a long way.
I look forward to using this forum and meeting other Aspie's/autistics!
