Greeting to you all,

My name is Leela.I am a 17-year-old girl going to college to soon to study to be a Deaf Education teacher.

A little bit more about me:

I have High-Functioning Autism and Bipolar Disorder.I am also nonverbal(I cannot verbally speak)and I walk with a cane because I have problems with my left leg.I use American Sign Language to communicate.

You see,the reason why I cannot talk and have trouble walking is because I had a stroke at the age of four.It paralyzed my vocal cords andruined my balance and coordnation.I had to have walking therpay to learn how to walk again.I regained back some of my balance and stuff,but I still have trouble with my left leg,which is why I walk with a cane.

It took me about 3-4 months to learn ASL.I am now fluent in it.

I have four younger siblings.

Anything else,just ask.

I'm learning ASL now, I take classes twice a week at the Adult School. I love it...........

that's such a noble career to pursue. i had a deaf childhood friend i got along with very well. although i am verbal, and sometimes talk too much, i got along quite well because i could also be incredibly shy and i still often have difficulty expressing myself verbally if i am not rambling on about one of my interests. it was much easier to be friends with him than it was with "normal" children. sadly he moved away and i have forgotten most the asl i learned.
