Hello my name is R-Complex! I'm new to this community only after being made aware of it's existence by Temple Grandin.
I'm 27 years old, soon to be 28 on the 21st, lol. I was officially diagnosed August of last year by the folks at University of the Permian Basin. I've lived with Asperger's Syndrome for literally years without knowing I was Autistic. I've known for sometime I was different, but it wasn't until I saw the film on Temple Grandin that I realized how much she thought like I did when I saw a mechanical object.
I'm classified primarily as a word-fact thinker, but I believe strongly that I'm a combination brain. I can visualize what I'm writing when I'm penning short stories or novels, almost as if I were living every moment of the story. I'm also a bit of a pattern thinker as I can put words into a rhythm and figure out songs on my guitar. Mostly I know the older AC/DC catalogue verbatim (most haven't been tabbed or transcribed yet) and a few Hendrix songs. I'm also an encyclopedia of knowledge, primarily on tornadoes which still fascinate me amongst other subjects.
I'm also an artist and skilled welder, with some novice blacksmithing experience. I work in many mediums including silicone rubber and urethane plastics, pen and ink, etc.
Primarily I would love to get into animatronics and film. I have a fond love for movie magic and filmmaking, but if nothing more I would love to work on comics again like when I was younger.
For me my biggest milestone was walking the stage at my graduation fully decorated with honors and my American Legion Medal. It marks a great standing moment for me as I was assigned to help get volunteers together for a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. I learned a lot about interacting with people watching the few friends I have help get folks to sign up after my original two abandoned me midway. I was so worried about the event that the night of the event I was sent home after discovering they had enough volunteers. The big surprise came from my theater teacher Mrs. Sanders, a breast cancer survivor who bravely stuck out the school year despite losing her hair, who was just beaming. She told me it was a success and that they had raised $500,000 in research funds. I was surely kicking myself, imagining some super huge goal that we only made half of. The good news was that the original goal was $100,000 and that we surpassed it with flying colors.
And so here I am Wrong Planet. It's a pleasure to meet you.
