I found this in my Facebook Notes...I wrote this in 2009.
I’m diagnosed with Aspregers Syndrome. Aspergers Syndrome is also known as High Functioning Autism and it is a social disorder that limits my social skills. For example, I have a hard time making friends than normal people do and I’m still learning to socialize with them properly. The most common trait of this disorder is having no eye contact. Now that I’m more mature, I’m getting better at giving eye contact but there are still times when I forget about it. Some other traits of my disability are over exaggeration, bad organizational time management and problem solving skills, taking things literally, and being self-centered. Aspergers Syndrome makes me dependent, so I would have a hard time living on my own. Aspergers Syndrome also gives me ticks such as biting my hand when getting stressed and rubbing my hands together when I’m excited. Although it is mainly considered a social disadvantage, Aspergers Syndrome has one special advantage. It is what makes me unique and creative. People with Aspergers Syndrome usually succeed in a special subject that they like, such as art, math, sports, science, music, etc. My subject is in Music. I’m very smart when it comes to music. Not only am I smart in music, but I have a god gifted talent in it. If you name a song, I can play it on the piano or I can arrange it with a notation program. To me, this is a god gifted talent. I play piano, I sing in chorus and I compose songs. I also have a lot of knowledge in music. I’ve taken Music Theory I and AP Music Theory II. I’ve gained some college credit in music because I aced the AP. I’ll over exaggerate on music because I love it so much, especially classical music. I can name of billions of classical composers that you won’t even know about. I love music so much, I want to become a music major. I’m hoping to get a B.A. in Music.
Here is my Term Paper introduction, which explains Aspergers Syndrome in a much more formal way....
Aspergers Syndrome is a disorder in which individuals have very limited social skills. As a result, individuals with AS don’t make as much friends. This can cause stress for individuals with AS because they feel jealous of those who have a lot of friends. Other reasons why AS individuals don’t have as many friends are because they have trouble understanding non-verbal cues, they are self-centered on their special interests, they can act very inappropriate at times, and because they have a hard time with eye contact. Besides a lack of social skills, individuals with Aspergers Syndrome don’t have good organizational skills, self-determination skills, and problem solving skills. As a result, most students with AS learn things differently at a slower pace. They also and have a hard time dealing with change, so they like to stick with routines.
