Hi Demi - first of all ... you are NOT old lol! Have you considered getting a dog(if you don't already have one)? I say this because I was not a dog person, had never owned a dog before, but a dog found me! On Crete of all places. It helped ease me back out into the world again after some trauma caused me to hide away. I discovered that having a dog, opens the world up so much! I suddenly had all these lovely, very friendly people in my neighbourhood coming up for a chat, very warm toward both me and my pooch. It made a world of difference! Just getting outside and walking in the sunshine, or the rain for that matter, and being in nature, I find, has an amazing effect. I cannot recommend having a dog highly enough. It took a few months for me to feel comfortable venturing out into areas, I'd never been to before, but it was soo worth it! Nothing wrong with being fussy with food. You are You! If by this stage in your life, you don't wish to stretch your tastes to new things, so be it. Everyone deep down surely is likewise scared of being judged. Humans are humans :)! If you can break through the barrier of getting yourself out the door, going on daily walks, greeting people with a smile, you might eventually find it gets easier and easier. Then, hopefully, you start feeling happier within yourself, and not caring anywhere near as much as you once did, about what others think. It's nice to be in a place where you can exist on autopilot and just enjoy a walk, or an adventure outside. We tend to cope better with limited interaction at any rate. Hope you find that with time, getting out a bit more regularly, you'll build in confidence, and accept that you have a place in this world, so to speak. We all do. No one person deserves to step outside more than another. Oh ... and welcome :)! Good to have you with us.

If 31 is old, what does that make me? :skull: I was just over twice your age when I got my diagnosis!! !!

I've just been out in the rain with my dog. When we're out, the nice people want to say hello to her, and the not so nice ones avoid us! Although I'm the only person who wanders round the village late at night :D .

Good for you! It's great that a dog was able to benefit your life in the way that you describe.

However, dogs aren't for everyone. In particular, I wouldn't expect someone who "cant stand loud noises" to be able to stand a dog barking. Also, some of us just don't have the "spoons" to be able to take responsibility for caring for an animal.

I wouldn't judge people's overall "niceness" by how well they relate to your dog. Some people who don't like your dog might be perfectly nice to you in other contexts, and some people who do like your dog might be less nice to you if you didn't have one. Of course, walking a dog is a good way to make friends with those passers-by who do happen to like dogs.

Hi Demi! Welcome to Wrong Planet. You'll probably find quite a few people here who share both your fears and your sound sensitivity to varying degrees. Personally I don't fear going out, although I prefer to stay home most of the time (I do home-based work). Yes, for many of us it can be very hard to read people's intent.
